R22 Gas: A few decades ago this gas, aka Freon, was considered a good alternative to CFCs used for long for this purpose due to its eco-friendly nature. But later on its eco-friendly status lost its reliability and many countries decided to stop using it as per the Montreal Agreement. After this phase-out incident, it became difficult to maintain old air conditioning units as it was manufactured in only a few countries. For new units, various other options were used.

R410A Gas: In almost all over the world today R22 has been replaced with a new refrigerant R410 as it is more efficient and environment-friendly than its predecessor. Moreover, it absorbs and releases heat better and lesser harmful for the ozone layer than R22. In this way, R410 is considered a better alternative to R22 while topping up new aircon units.
